1. Choose value over priceAnyone can inject these products but like a highly-tuned performance race car, it makes a difference who is at the wheel. Don’t just price shop, MD/RN shop as well.

2.       Experience/Training of injectorFind out how long your practitioner has been doing the practice of injectables. Have they had many complaints? What has been their most common side effect? Do they have other clients you can talk to?

3.       No numbing requiredIce is probably the best method of numbing the facial skin before injections. Numbing creams can be costly and dental blocks are just totally unnecessary.

4.       Where are the products supposed to be placed?Botox owns the upper half of the face. Dermal Fillers (Radiesse, Juvederm) can be used on wrinkles but can sculpt the mid-face , jaw-line, nose and lips as well. Be sure your practitioner has experience with the treatment you want.

5.       How long does it last?Botox can last anywhere from 3-6 months and most fillers 8-12 months. It varies with the amount injected and once again, the skill of the injector.

6.       Frozen look? Only on request…Most experienced practitioners have developed the art of injection to the point where excellent results can be achieved without the “deer in the headlights” look. But if that is what you desire, then ask for it.

7.       Are there any long term side effects?Although complications have been reported from both of these products classes, greater than 99% of clients will experience no other problems than temporary swelling and the occasional bruise.

8.       How much do I need? That depends. Are you going for a complete injectable thread-lift or a specific wrinkle that has been a problem? Anyone who claims they can tell you over the phone what you will need just doesn’t understand the expansive options that these products have. A client needs to be seen in person.

9.       Downtime? There is no downtime with Botox. Dermal fillers may cause swelling for 2-3 days but most people have completely recovered from any “injection trauma” by that time.

10.   Is Botox/Dermal Filler right for me?These products provide a safe, non-invasive, albeit temporary method to alter one’s appearance, restore youth and make you look as young as you feel. If that sounds like it’s right up your alley, take the plunge!
